Christians desire to worship the one true and living God. Jesus teaches us that God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth. This is an authentic biblical worship from the inside out. Worshipping in spirit and truth is vital. It is not the god of your imagination that you are worshipping. Neither is it a lukewarm going through the motions. It is not just getting through something so that you are good for the week. Our worship must be joyful, celebratory and respectful. The issue is what pleases God, not what pleases us. To those who are critical of authentic worship, we might reply: no matter, we weren't worshipping you! Ultimately, what pleases God, will truly please us. The early church praised God together and "everyone was filled with awe" at God's workings in their midst. O for that sense of awe! The gospel is good reason for our worship!
