When disaster strikes someone else, do not speculate as to who is to blame. Jesus teaches us instead to consider our own inevitable demise and eternal destiny. We need to repent continually because we sin miserably. Remember the three C's of genuine repentance: confession, contrition and change. To repent is to confess the sinfulness of our sin against God. To repent is also to be contrite. It is to be sorry for what we have done. Then to repent is to change our ways, turning away from our sin. That is the most difficult part for us! It is good for us to hate our sins, but hard because we live in a culture that has forgotten how to blush. What used to be shameful, has now become entertainment. What used to be unmentionable, is casually discussed on television. God help us!
