Recognizing that Daniel's God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings doesn't change Nebuchadnezzar's behavior much. Rather than worshiping the true God, Nebuchadnezzar sets up an idol and requires all to bow down and worship that idol. He causes all of the leaders throughout his kingdom to come and worship the idol when he consecrates it. Nebuchadnezzar causes it to be commanded throughout all his kingdom that whenever people hear certain instruments play, regardless of where they are, that they must bow down and worship or they will be thrown into a fiery furnace. We do not hear about Daniel in this chapter, but Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refuse to comply with Nebuchadnezzar's idolatry. They make it clear that they do not serve his gods nor the image that he set up. They stand firm. How often do we waiver and maybe not go along with the idolatry in our country, but fail to speak against it?
