The warnings in Scripture are given because sin not only is an offense to a holy God, but sin leads to our own deception. The warnings are given because what should be obvious to us is often not so clear as it should be. We read for example in Hebrews 3:12-13, “Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; 13 but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” It is very easy for us especially when things are going seemingly well to be deceived by sin; to think that all is well when it is not. Our passage also includes an important warning. Husbands, know your wives, giving them honor, so that your prayers are not hindered. While this passage is addressed primarily to husbands, as we noted last week from verses 1-6, this is a warning given to all of God's people. From verse 7, we will note first a command, second the two reasons for the command, and third the serious purpose and warning given to this command.
