The Apostle Peter obviously came to understand the necessity and purpose of Christ's suffering. Peter knew himself what it was to suffer for the sake of Christ and to follow in His steps. But in his letter, Peter doesn't speak of His own example or testimony. It is significant that in the entire letter, Peter speaks only once and that very briefly of his own experience. Peter was not seeking to build His own following or his own ministry. Rather his goal was to point his readers to the example of Christ. And this Peter does also for us. The heart of Peter's message from verses 21-25 is this: Follow the example of Christ. From verses 21-25, we will note the three examples of Christ and our proper response to them.
