Israel has arrived at the mountain where God will give them what will be known as the Mosaic Law. He will enter into another covenant with them as a nation, in addition to the Abrahamic Covenant. Israel responds to the conditions of the covenant by stating that 'all that the Lord has spoken, we will do,' thus agreeing to the terms of the covenant God is making with them. The terms include blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience.
With the laws concerning the sabbath, Israel is given special instruction for their worship as it will need to be, to be pleasing and acceptable to God.
