We should never take the unity we have in the church for granted. It is the unity of the Spirit, established by the Father, through the Son, and it is a wonderful gift of grace. We are one body, and in Ephesians 4:1-16 Paul urges us to maintain this unity. Not an easy task for a bunch of sinners, even saved ones. But we are not left to our own devices to do this. Christ has given gifts to the church to equip us for all he has called us to do, so that we might build one another up in love to full maturity and unity in Christ. It is only the truth of Christ which will hold us fast in the storms of life, enable us to grow and maintain the unity of the Spirit among us. So may we speak this truth to one another often, and always in love.
