The One who, in fulfillment of the Scriptures, had been abhorred and rejected by the nation - the One regarded as equally rejected by the God of Israel, had now been exalted by Him and given all authority in heaven and earth as Lord and Christ. The realization of their complicity with Israel in crucifying the Messiah left Peter's hearers devastated and desperate, yet Peter responded to their plea, not with condemnation, but with a call to repent and come to the One they had murdered. For the presence of the Spirit indicated that Yahweh's work of redemption and restoration had been completed. That testimony, in turn, established the responsibility of all men to come and be reconciled to Him and enter into His new creation through union with His Son by His Spirit.
