In showing how the Pentecost phenomenon testified to Jesus as the prophesied Christ, Peter began by recounting His messianic work which had its focal point in His atoning death and resurrection. But His triumph over the grave was itself non-ultimate: Jesus had been raised in order to take His throne as the Son of David and there begin His priestly ministry as the Melchizedekian High Priest. It was as Yahweh's enthroned high priest that Jesus had sent forth the Spirit to begin His work of renewing and restoring the fallen creation. It was as a priest upon His throne, and in the power of His Spirit, that the Branch of David was going to build Yahweh's everlasting sanctuary (cf. Zechariah 3:1-4:14, 6:9-15; 1 Peter 2:4-10).

Learn Christ from the Scriptures! Another wonderful sermon in which Kit Culver explores 3 threads of Messianic typology/prophecy. Kit shows how these 3 threads are woven into the rich, intricate tapestry which is Christ. The King David typology of Christ; the Davidic Covenant of 2 Samuel 7:12-17; and the Melchizedec typology are the 3 threads -- and they all come together beautifully in this dynamic sermon. Listener BEWARE: this sermon has substance! For some it will be strong (maybe too strong) meat. Those who are not all that familiar with the OT Scriptures will not fully appreciate the power and depth of this sermon.
