Lecture is Pt. 1 of 3 in a series sponsored by Heidelberg Theological Seminary in Sioux Falls, SD.
Are we indeed living in an unbelieving world? The importance of asking this question.
I. Evaluating the current culture: Some considerations regarding the current view of life in our culture. A. In general B. In the church C. In politics
We should not be surprised.
II. The Christian's response to the culture: Understanding the relationship which is to exist between the believer & the world in which we live. Rm. 12:1-2; 1 Pt. 2:11; Ph. 3:17-21. A. Be a light on a hill, Mt. 5:13-16 B. The need to address the issues of the day C. Understanding what will really change culture D. Preach the word
The need & difficulty of preaching the principle that the believer is to live in this world but not be of this world.
III. How to survive in a pagan culture: is it possible for believers to maintain their faith & serve God from generation to generation in a pagan, hostile culture?
A. The need to understand that all of life is to be lived before God B. Escape is not the answer C. Understand what it means to be in the world but not of the world D. The need for the church to address fundamental life styles E. Seek first the kingdom of God
The foundational issue in this survival is to recognize & follow the principle that the answers to the issues of life are not to be found in the culture but in the Word of God. 1 Ti. 3:16-17; Dt. 6:1-9
While it is important to recognize the influences which are prevalent in our world, God calls believers to live in this world & bear witness to the truth wherever they are & in whatever situation they are in.
