The God whom we worship and serve is a very wise God. He is the only wise God. He knows the time and the season for everything under heaven as our verses say here. To everything that man does, there is a season, and there is a time for every purpose under heaven. The lesson that I believe God would have each of us to learn is that there is a right time in God’s mind for everything that is right and good. And it is for man to learn what God’s mind is, concerning every subject that is listed in verses 1-8. It is in this way that the Christian learns to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever. There are some of the things which are listed here which are outside of man’s power do anything about, because they are too great for man. And then there are some things which are in man’s power to either engage in them, or to abstain from them, and a Christian must learn how to distinguish when to do each at the right time. What I want to do in the sermons that I will preach to you from these verses, is to understand each of these subjects that are mentioned, in relation to God’s sovereignty and man’s responsibility. I hope to be able to do this in such a way that you and I will better understand life.
