It is sad to see how many characters introduce themselves today as "Prophet" or "Apostle". Yet this is an honour they shouldn't dare to own. They do not qualify as the prophets and apostles of Scripture did. The prophets and apostles Paul was referring to were special people, appointed by God to write Scripture. It is upon this foundation that the church is built. We could go as far as to say, "If we have prophets and apostles today, we have total confusion in the church."
By God's grace, there can be unity in the church because we have one body of truth that we can study, love, and base our lives on. The church is a special place because we can answer the question, "What is truth?"
Paul continues to show how the entire church, which is God's primary work in this age, is completely focussed on Christ. Every facet of church life is aligned by looking at Christ. Paul highlights the complete centrality of Christ in the church and in the universe. Christ, as the precious Cornerstone, is everything. It is our final duty as the church, to declare His greatness; to plead for the glory of Christ. He is our delight!
