Theme: Jesus Christ, the silent Servant, was the substitute that took God's wrath which His people deserved. In v. 8, we see how the silent Servant was unjustly judged. While many at that time did not consider His death as significant, we need to seriously consider the meaning of the death of Christ. Though sinless, He was punished for the sins of His people, and His atonement is the only way of salvation. In v. 9, Christ's innocence is proclaimed. This calls us to fully rest in His perfect sacrifice. Those who take Christ by faith, not relying on their own good works but trusting fully in Him, can have full assurance that they are secure, the peace of Christ ruling in their hearts, and joy in resting in His perfect sacrifice.
