In this section of Luke's Gospel, we encounter three groups who encounter the power of Jesus; the Disciples, who experience his power over nature, the Demons, who experience his authority over them, and the citizens of the Decapolis, who experience Jesus' power over the demons. All are afraid, but the disciples alone remain with him. The demons are hopeless, and flee, but the people of Decapolis are left with hope, even after Jesus departs, because of the former demoniac who he left as his witness.
