This week, from Luke 7:36-8:3, we will hear of the love, joy and freedom which flow from a sinful woman who has been forgiven much as she weeps over Jesus' feet. Such forgiveness runs deep into the hearts of sinners who humbly respond to the call to repentance, cleansing even the most guilty conscience. However, those who consider themselves righteous and in need of little forgiveness, if any, love little, if at all. Any flow of love in such a person is stemmed by self righteousness and deceitful pride. What many of us fail to see is that no matter how large or small our debt, if it be measurable at all, we are unable to pay it. All of us are wholly dependent upon the mercy and 'much forgiveness' of God in order that we too might love much and live in peace.
