Theme: All people must be watching and ready for Jesus's return. In vv. 35-36 Jesus gives instruction. In light of the fact that followers of Jesus don't need to be worried about our earthly needs, Jesus gives commands of where our focus is to be. We are to be ready for service and watching for the King's return. In vv. 37-38 Jesus proclaims the blessing those who are ready for His return will receive. We need to contemplate the rewards that He promises. In vv. 39-40, Jesus cautions His disciples. We need to work diligently for the Lord. Be dedicated, patient, faithful, and persistent. Though the exact time of His return is uncertain, we can be certain that He is coming again! Jesus's commands are simple. Are we looking for His coming and living in light of that, looking with joy for the great and blessed hope? Or are we stuck focusing and worrying about this life here and now? Let us be watchful, ready, and working as we look for His return!
