It seemed that every time the apostle Paul planted a church and started disciples out with a sure Gospel foundation, enemies of the Gospel would come along and undo the work that he had started. Such was the case at the church in Corinth. False apostles would come in and teach a false Gospel, cast doubt upon Paul’s apostleship, impugn his motives and the integrity of his ministry. In 2 Corinthians 10 Paul had to defend his apostolic authority because if the slander of the false apostles was accepted in the minds of the Corinthians, then the purity of the Gospel would be at stake! In our day, there still exist many of those who are trying to replace the true Gospel with a false one of salvation by faith PLUS all kinds of things; baptism, works, church membership to name a few. Salvation is by a repentant faith alone in Christ alone PLUS NOTHING! The truth of the Gospel is worth fighting for! Paul knew this and teaches us what are the proper Weapons of our Warfare.
