How does a church recover from the deaths of Ananias and Sapphira which occurred as a result of their deceit? How does any church bounce back from such a scandal? Only by the grace of God. In Acts 5:12-42 the 'recovery' is extraordinary! – "more than ever believers were added to the Lord." And when opposition arrives, they rejoice that they "were counted worthy to suffer dishonour for the name." Jesus promised his followers he would build his church, and nothing - not sin, nor Satan or sanction – will get in his way. Every other kingdom will topple and fall, but Christ's kingdom cannot be shaken. Therefore, as the writer of Hebrews urges us, let us be grateful… and offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.
