Notice in v 21 that we are called to this life of enduring suffering for Christ. “For even hereunto were ye called.†And as Christ suffered so must we. We must not expect to be more popular than our Lord. As he was hated so shall we.
But the Lord Jesus is our example in suffering as Christians. We are to consider how he handled and withstood suffering, so that we might bear them patiently to the glory of God. It is not just the suffering that God sees, but the manner in which we endure them – we stay under and bear up with holy fortitude.
It is when we suffer wrongfully v19 – not for our faults, but for doing well v20. * For Righteousness Sake ch 3:14 * For Well doing ch 3:17 * As a Christian and to glorify God ch. 4:16 The same attitude and the same power that was in the Lord Jesus flows into believers in the gospel of the Lord Jesus. Christ is our example – see Ch. 2:21. We find grace to endure hardship as a Christian by looking unto the example which the Lord has left us. Do you do that?
