Jesus taught in parables to conceal truth to those persistent in their unbelief and to reveal more truth to believers. In so teaching He used common metaphors followed by the explanation to make the truth and the point of the revelation understood. In this parable Jesus was explaining His ministry of the Word of God, the different responses to it, and the cause of the different responses. With the same Sower using the same seed the differing results were and continue to be because of the condition of the soil which illustrates the spiritual heart condition of people. As His disciples continued the ministry of the Gospel so too they, and those proclaiming the same message today, receive the same varying responses for the same reason, the spiritual heart condition of the hearer. The power of salvation continues to be in effect through the clear and biblical proclamation of the gospel message for those who hear and believe. The faithful proclamation of the Word of God always accomplishes the purposes of God and glorifies Jesus Christ.
