There is a notable contrast between Hosea chapters 4 and 5. In chapter 4, the Israelites claim to know God but in truth they have deserted him. The point of chapter 5 is that if Israel has forgotten God, God has not forgotten Israel. God knows Israel through and through. God has not changed. He knows everything there is to know about you and me (Hebrews 4:12,13). And sometimes our sins cause him to move away from us, resulting in what a friend calls "wintertime in my soul." This message is about those times when God seems far away.
