Jonah wanted God's wrath to fall upon Nineveh because Nineveh's kingdom was violent and hostile toward Jonah's people. Jonah wanted God's salvation from the great fish, but not toward his enemies. Jonah's heart was still bad even after being saved from the fish. God had mercy on Jonah not to kill him. God inspired Jonah to tell the truth about this story where Jonah did not paint himself to be better than he was. God's word is truth and He is in control of the wind, the plants, even the worms. God cared about the people of Nineveh even though He knew how they would ultimately treat Him.
