Peter wrote bringing to the mind of the believer that in regard to the sufferings being endured in this present life, the glory of God in this life will sustain and is but a foretaste of the greater glory yet to come. This reminder strengthens and reinforces the believer’s hope that is certain and untouchable by the troubles of the day. The reminders of the glory also direct attention to the greatness of God Himself and who He is, the sovereign who is wise, loves and cares for His people. Peter himself was writing with such confidence in God and rejoicing in his salvation even as he faced his own martyrdom that was soon to come. With that assurance Peter could close his letter with a reminder of the peace of God that is given to those who have peace with God. A peace that is supernatural, beyond comprehension, and settles the soul through every storm of life.
