Two strong motivations are given by the apostle for himself and all believers in light of that future time of giving an account for the new life given by God through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. There will be accountability for life, lifestyle, and ministry in serving the Lord for whom there will be a growing reverence and fear. This fear is not a fear of judgment for sin but an awe and respect for God that fears disappointing God and failing to be and do all that the grace of God provides for. This fear wants to be pleasing and honoring to God in gratitude and worship not to earn or maintain favor. This fear will be intensified by a growing understanding of the greatness of salvation in respect of the holiness of God and consequently impact all matters of life. He declares how compelling should be the love of Christ, especially having been demonstrated by His death for the sin of all mankind. Christ’s death being sufficient to provide salvation for all will only be effectual for those who are personally willing to confess their sin, repent, and trust in Christ as their Savior.
