If you are prospering in your life, is it because the Lord is blessing your faithfulness? If your health is good and you are getting along in life very well, is it because you've been blessed for all your faithfulness?
I. Notice how easily we can attribute evil to God (2:17). 1. We must never draw out the character of God by reading providence. 2. Whenever our snap judgments end up faulting God, then be assured you are seriously wrong and sinful. II. God's answer may be more than we can handle (3:1-5) so let us be careful what we ask for. 1. Who can stand when he appears? 2. Notice what God is concerned about (vv. 2-4)! He is concerned about our holiness, He will refine us, thoroughly scrub us down to get rid of our moral filth. 3. Notice that the God of justice/judgment will truly reveal His righteousness one day (v. 5). III. God's faithfulness/immutability has kept you from being consumed (3:6). • God's immutability enabled the children of Jacob to persist, to not perish, to not be consumed, to not cease (literally), etc. He is faithful to them though, like their fathers before them, they turned aside from Him. God remembers His covenant and is faithful to His promise, His Word. [Deut. 7:8, "but it is because the LORD loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the LORD has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt."] •Israel revealed their perverseness throughout biblical history and yet they remained as a nation. Why? Because God is faithful to His Word; He does not change.
