This week, we will consider Daniel 2:1-13 as all the wise men in Babylon are confronted by Nebuchadnezzar. As magicians, astrologers and sorcerers, they have claimed to have special knowledge given by the supernatural. Nebuchadnezzar demands that they prove their interpretation is true by describing the dream. If they can supernaturally interpret the dream, then certainly those same supernatural forces know what the dream was. Nebuchadnezzar points out their hypocrisy and declares that they will die for it. They respond in typical ways by stalling for time and by saying that everyone else is the same. Next week, we will see how Jehovah is not the same as the false gods of the Babylonians. What contradictions do we accept as normal, when they are logically inconsistent? Throughout Scripture we see people accept false prophets, knowing that they are false, but it is because they are hearing what they want to hear. We should recognize how easy it is for us to be no different.
