We started to look at 1 Timothy a couple of weeks ago. We looked at it because of Paul’s admonition in 1 Timothy chapter 3 to “teach no other doctrine.” This is a sobering warning. It shows us that there is a true and false doctrine. Doctrine that saves and doctrine that leads to hell, even as it promises heaven. Some of it is easy and we find that we like it and coast along. Some of it is hard and involves works and sacrifices to try to earn our way to heaven. What we want is to know the truth. Jesus promised in John 8:32 that if we know the truth, “the truth will set you free.” Let’s look at what Paul points out to Timothy.
