Whom we serve is demonstrated by whom we obey. This point is being made to refute the notion that without obligation to the Mosaic Law there is freedom to sin without consequence. For the believer, the freedom from obligation to the Law and from being under the power of sin means there is freedom to live in obedience to God.
The one whom a person chooses to obey reveals who is master, sin or God. Obedience to Jesus Christ as Lord and Master of a believer's life results in a life of righteousness. Having been freed from sin's power there is freedom to serve Christ, now being a slave to righteousness rather than to sin.
In being a slave to righteousness, the believer is able to fully live out the life God created for them. The intimacy of that personal relationship with Him can now be fully realized and experienced. The Lord Himself provides all that is necessary to fully equip and enable the believer to serve Him fruitfully.
Thus the power of the Gospel is demonstrated in the life of the one who is saved.
