The apostle is trying to convey to us certain things and among them is unity of mind. If we are to truly to be one with Christ Jesus we must operate in the same mind set as He. To be like likeminded means to be in agreement. We need to get the pride and selfishness out of our lives. Encouragement, comfort, fellowship, and mercies are to be our first order of business. We need to put ourselves to the side and help one another because outlook is outcome. If the effort is selfish the results will be damaging. Our aim is supposed to be, how can we help others. Our confession should also be the one and the same. Respect should be part of our confession. We should be confessing Jesus as savior with all that we do here; will one day do in for eternity in heaven; because in hell they will never be able to make such a confession only that they wish they had. Our confession should be reaching the lost now while there is still time. We should also share the same cause. We need more Christians who are committed to the cause of Christ. Every single Christian is equipped to answer to this cause. The problem comes when we stop trying to be approved by God and say I'm ok with where I am at. When we decide we don't have to be as diligent as previous generations. Even with the chance to be learning from the Apostle Paul, he only had a couple of men he felt were fully committed. It is up to each of us to choose to have the same mind as Christ Jesus.
