In theology we make a distinction between general and special revelation. God in His goodness has deigned to reveal to this world things about Himself, His plan, and so our purpose. Now this revelation takes two forms:
1. God endowed creation such that it points to the reality of God, His existence, and our obligation to Him; we call this general Revelation. 2. Yet general revelation is not enough to save a man from his sin. And so in His mercy, God deigned to give man a book- which we call the Bible or special revelation; which details the purpose of man and how he can fulfill that purpose through Christ.
