What is man's greatest need? Love, meaning, significance, acceptance? Food, water, shelter, clothing?
The greatest need in all of humanity is forgiveness. Always has been. Always will be as long as we await our Lord's return.
This is a need we all share regardless of who we are, where we lived or when we lived. It is guaranteed that the subject of forgiveness will resonate with every person—even the toughest that have ever lived.
Forgiveness is difficult for some people in our culture b/c it is viewed as a sign of capitulation; of failure and weakness.
Another reason forgiveness does not come easy in our culture is b/c we've cultivated a ‘victim mentality' mindset in our culture and its attractive. ‘Its not my fault. Its someone else's fault; its my parents fault; or my spouse fault; or the fault of my environment.
We make films in our culture that glorify vengeance and retaliation. We look down with condescension on Christian virtues like forgiveness and humility.
The price of being an unforgiving person is high. It produces animosity, hatred, bitterness, malice and contempt. Unforgiveness is a bitter wormwood that courses through the veins resulting in a host of negative health issues.
Forgiveness is the centerpiece of Christianity. It's the intersection of mercy and justice on the cross. Forgiveness is what our faith is all about.
As a Christian, you are never more like God than when you forgive. Our God is a forgiving God.
