Wealth is not evil of itself, but it does tend to increase pride. God hates the pride that so frequently characterizes wealthy people. When we are able to afford things and make more decisions about what we want, and when we have power to order other people around, we become immensely proud. Jesus said that it is hard for the rich man to enter Heaven (Matthew 19:23-24). Nothing is impossible with God, and it is possible to be a rich believer; however, we are not to desire wealth and God gives us many warnings about it. When we have wealth, we are to be thankful for our riches and generous with them. Thankfulness lends to humility and obedience.
