How were OT saints saved? How were they declared right before God? Sometimes, you get the impression that salvation was by obedience, works of the Law in the OT. After all, there are many many laws in the OT (613 it is said). Even some Christians give you the impression that the OT people were saved, justified by their obedience to the Law. In the NT, we are free but they were under the Law. It all changed when Jesus came. So it has been said…
That is NOT TRUE. Here, in this passage, Paul carefully shows that it was NEVER that way. The law never ever was given to justify men, or declare them right before God by means of obedience to the law. FOR EVERYONE 1. None of us have obeyed God's Law perfectly. 2. All of us lie under God's curse for our disobedience! 3. Only in Christ can we escape God's curse (vv. 13, 14)! FOR BELIEVERS 1. NEVER FORGET — Christ redeemed you from the curse of the law. 2. ALWAYS REMEMBER — you live by faith and not by works. 3. ALWAYS REMEMBER — all your blessings come to you IN CHRIST (v. 14).
