The devil spreads many lies about God. One of the lies is that God is a god of love. He only loves. He never punishes. He never exacts vengeance. But, on the other side, is another lie. Namely, that God is not compassionate. Psalm 103 is a precious psalm that reveals to us that God is compassionate. He pities His children. He is mindful that they are but dust. We may have had harsh human fathers -- fathers who always criticized, who were never pleased with anything, who were unapproachable, or who were absent. God is not to be confused with our human fathers. He has His own reputation. The best human father imaginable does not compare with Him. We must know God. We must know who He is and what He is like. If we see God as harsh, we are going to be harsh as well.
