Christ gave the keys of the kingdom to the N.T. church (Matt 16:19). These keys are Christian discipline (Matt 18:17-18) and the preaching of the gospel (John 20:22-23). That Christ gave these to the N.T. church means, not only, that the church is commanded to use them, but also that their use will be for the benefit of the church and its members. The failure to use them will be to the church's detriment.
