Man is a creature preoccupied with how he looks. He looks at himself in the mirror and watches the glory fade away, fighting it long after the battle has been lost. Interestingly, the preoccupation with beauty is not entirely bad. The problem is that we are striving for the wrong kind of beauty for the sake of the wrong kind of audience. Instead of focusing on outward beauty, we should be focusing on inward. Instead of focusing on man, we should aim to please God. And what God finds attractive is a gentle and quiet spirit, manifested by submission.
