We are grateful for another opportunity to come to the Lord’s Table. As we prepare our hearts to come to the Supper, I want to open up a theme that will help prepare us to come in a profitable manner. The essential point of my entire sermon is that the saving work of Jesus is personal, and for individual sinners. Therefore, we must personally appropriate its benefits for ourselves. Furthermore, we must go on doing so throughout the entirety of our earthly pilgrimage. In other words, we dare not generalize the work of Christ in a doctrinal sense. Rather, we must personalize it in a living sense. I then develop three important aspects of His saving work that we must always remember. These are rooted in the Gospel itself, and their practical relevancy for the Christian life must not be underestimated. In fact, our progress as Christians in our battle against sin depends upon the proper application of these great truths. Finally, once again we will see a demonstration that the Gospel is indeed the power of God unto salvation. May the Lord be pleased to bless His word to our hearts!
