How the church functions and how it grows spiritually involves the provisions of the spiritual gifts God gives the church. The Spirit of God gives ability to each one when they are born again so they are equipped and enabled to serve the Lord in the local church. Individual spiritual gifts are determined and discovered by functioning in the local church and in so doing will become obvious. Areas of giftedness will then become the area where service is focused. The spiritual gifts are given and exercised for the good of others and the overall functioning of the local body of Christ. Two broad categories of the gifts are identified as speaking gifts and serving gifts. All service is done for the Lord to honor Him and make Him known. In so serving the grace of God is displayed in individuals and in their corporate service with one another.
