The Philippians have a unity problem that is on the brink of destroying them. Paul exhorted them to a unity that was worthy of the gospel. We must give preference to our brothers and sisters. You must look out for the interests and needs of the church itself. Our Lord Jesus did this very thing for His Church. Though He was God He became a lowly human. Though He is ever blessed He became a curse for us. Though sinless He became a sinner for us. The Eternal God stoops to the dregs of humanity for us and for our salvation. And in our text today Paul further exhorts us to stir up the Spirit of God in us as we move forward in thankful obedience.
