As we come to the final word of the cross, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit," we hear Jesus articulate what he has done throughout all his life– entrust himself to the Father, to him who judges justly. Having completed all he was sent to do in his life on earth, before breathing his last, Jesus commits his spirit and all his work to the Father, 'awaiting his verdict', which comes with great affirmation and praise in the resurrection, which John will expound for us on Sunday. We have a great Saviour indeed. And as Peter encourages us to 'follow in his steps', we also have a great example in Christ– that we too might entrust ourselves to a faithful Creator while doing good, and can do so with great assurance, confidence and joy.
