Revelation Lesson # 025 SEVEN SPIRITS: Collectively, these spirits could be the"Holy Ghost." The Bible clearly states that there is only one Spirit (Ephesians 4:4). A frequently misinterpreted verse: there is one Spirit of God, but many other spirits (2 Timothy 4:22 "thy spirit"; 2 Corinthians 11:4 "receive another spirit"). The term "Seven Spirits" is primarily found in the Book of Revelation, which mentions it four times: 1:4, 3:1, 4:5, 5:6. The Bible mentions the seven Spirits of God, but Satan is the great imposter. Notice the number of devils cast out of Mary Magdalene. Luke 8:2 And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, The Bible mentions that Jesus freed Mary Magdalene from seven devils. As Satan is known to imitate and oppose God's works, he attempts to counterfeit and mimic the seven Spirits of God. This point further emphasizes the contrast between the divine and the diabolical and the spiritual battle between the forces of good and evil. Another example happens when Jesus is casting out devils from those possessed. In Luke 11:14-25, the religious leaders accused Jesus of casting out devils by the power of Beelzebub, the chief of the devils. Jesus refutes their claims, stating that a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand, and he emphasizes that he casts out devils by the power of God. Jesus continues with the story of an unclean spirit that leaves a man, only to return later with seven other spirits more wicked than itself.
