About 56 newspapers have gone out of business or merged in the last 12 years. America is less and less trusting of the media. But, the real story is the radical polarities developing in the nation. The Gallup polls found that 72% of Democrats trusted the media in 2017, and only 14% of Republicans trusted the media — almost a 60% spread. Twenty years earlier, the same polling organization found that 52% of Republicans were trusting the media, and 60% of Democrats registered trust. That’s a 7-fold increase in the political divide. Are newspapers necessary? Is a free press important to Christians? Why does darkness want to squelch all light and all truth? We argue for the value of a free press, and the use of news for Christians who wish to expose the unfruitful works of darkness.
