At the mid-point of the Tribulation Israel fled to the southern wilderness area of modern day Jordan. Christ is described as coming from this area where Israel has been protected and preserved for the last three and one-half years. Christ gathers the remnant as He proceeds to Jerusalem where there will be a great battle. Even after waves of judgment there is still rebellion and opposition to God under Satan's leadership. The armies of the world have gathered there to oppose the anti-Christ, but when Christ returns they are united under Satan to oppose Him. Israel will suffer greatly under the attack of the armies of the world until Christ intervenes and saves a remnant. The result will be the national conversion of this remnant of Israelites.
In the context of Christ's return there will be unsurpassed, worldwide destruction of men and animals. The dead flesh of the enemies of God becomes food for vultures. At the conclusion of Christ’s victory at Armageddon, the beast and the false prophet are thrown alive into hell as its first two occupants.
This defeat of the enemies of Christ sets the stage for the establishment of His kingdom upon the earth.
