Believers will face troubles so enduring and burdensome that despair and discouragement will want to settle in. Crushing pressure and emotional responses can be so intense that God will seem to have failed or forsaken. The life of faith requires choosing to trust God when feelings don't because of who He is as He has revealed Himself. Choosing to trust God means fixing the mind, thoughts, and will on God and depending on Him rather being wholly consumed by the troubles and circumstances. In so choosing the believer finds God as the anchor to hold strong and secure bringing stability, calm, and peace as the storm rages outwardly. The preciousness of those times is often realized later as the nearness of God and the growing relationship with Him will be ongoing blessings of hope and joy.

Not only is an this excellent sermon in giving the definition of "lovingkindness" for Strong's # 2617, but I got to hear a synopsis of The book of Job and other gems of information. So, go listen to the sermon just for the comments on Job--if for no other reason.¶
Lovingkindness is a very good word, and Bibles that follow and the ASV tradition will use it as often as they can. Actually, the KJV and NKJV use it quite often also--but not in this Psalm! They use the word, "mercies." Versions like the NIV and ESV, I believe only use "loving kindness" only once in their entire versions¶
It pays to have several versions of the Bible!
