The word that the Lord created in six days was a very blessed world. A totally different water cycle was in existence with water passing through vast underground caverns. The rivers in the Garden of Eden flowed according to these different principles. It was a good world and we should not despise the created world, even though it has been affected by the Fall. The rivers changed through the Fall and then the Flood so that they presented dangers and unreliability that they did not have before. Just as the world at the beginning was not destined to last, we need to remember that this world will not last either. The world will frustrate us and disappoint us so that we should never think that it will just go on for ever. The rivers at the beginning have looked as if they would go on forever but they did not. We need to recall that our circumstances, health and family fortunes will not remain static. We need to remember that the state of the nation and the state of the church is not going to remain the same either. Just as the world needs saving, so we too need saving.
