Christ did not die on account of the crucifixion, rather He gave up His life. It was given so that we could be holy and blameless before Him.
Man was originally created to fellowship with God. Yet sin drove man from the Garden of Eden and the flaming Cherubim guarded the way to the tree of life. After the flood, the Garden of Eden was taken from this earth, and replaced with a tabernacle/temple — that now became the place of God's dwelling on this earth. And in replacing the Garden of Eden with the Tabernacle/Temple, God once again stationed the cherubim to guard the way of fellowshipping with God upon the Temple veil.
Now, it was this veil — which speaks of death and destruction as the cherubim stared you in the face — that was removed when Christ died! We now have the right to enter God's presence.
