Here we take up "To the Cross" #4.The morning text was Matt 27.1-26.The evening is Matt 27.27-31. In the morning we paid attention to various responses to the Lord. Each of those responses shows once again that Jesus is in charge. But then a great change occurs. At the end of the morning text Jesus is flogged. This terrible torture sets the stage for more abuse and mocking in the evening text. We might be inclined to ask why the Bible is so transparent and blunt to record the torture the Lord endured. ----------- Responsive Reading of Psalm 22.1-11 Scripture Reading: Matthew 27.27-31 Text: Matthew 27:27-31 Sermon: "To the Cross, #4" ----------- Theme: The condemned King receives mock praise and brutal, vile treatment
