We take up "To the Cross" #3 and #4. The morning text is Matthew 27.1-26. The evening will be Matthew 27.27-31. There is good reason for that division. In the morning we will pay attention to various responses to the Lord. Each of those responses shows once again that Jesus is in charge. But then a great change occurs. At the end of the morning text Jesus is flogged. This terrible torture sets the stage for more abuse and mocking in the evening text. We might be inclined to ask why the Bible is so transparent and blunt to record the torture the Lord endured. ------------------ Scripture Reading: Matthew 27:1-26 Text: Matthew 27.1-26 Message: "To the Cross, #3" ------------- Theme: The unjust condemnation of Jesus causes powerful responses
1. The remorseful (not repentant) response from Judas
2. The response (and lack of) from JesuS
3. The dreadful response from Mrs. Pilate
4. The pragmatic response from Pilate and criminal response from the crowd
