I. God's Care (2:7). II. God's Control (2:25). III. God's Discipline (3:23-29; 1:37). IV. God's Destruction (2:34; 3:6). Why did God devote these people to destruction? Is God moral in doing this? Is He good in doing this? 1. He did it because of their iniquity. 2. God has a right to judge all and any sinner anytime He determines it. 3. God can judge directly or use means. 4. Earthly judgments serve as a precursor of one's eternal judgment for those opposed to God. 5. Their lives and their land are not their own; God granted it to them. CONCLUSION: One, no one is guaranteed a full life on earth (however short or long that may be). Our lives are determined by God and we shall be held accountable to Him.
Two, anyone of us may be called to give an account anytime God sees fit. This is His world, He created it and created us and God can sovereignly bring each and everyone of us to account.
Three, for believers, no matter how short or long we live here on earth, our removal from earth is a blessing because we will be made perfect in holiness and will be with our Savior.
Four, only through Christ can we escape God's judgment.
