Pride is the sin beneath all other sins. It is at the root of idolatry, making graven images, taking God's Name in vain, violating the Sabbath, dishonoring parents, murder and all its sub-sins (hatred, unforgiveness, etc), adultery and its sub-sins (fornication, homosexuality, lust), stealing, lying, and coveting. There is pride in all of us, and it hangs on even after our salvation. We say with Paul, "Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?" (Rom. 7:24). But, thanks be to God, who has given us a humble Savior in Jesus Christ our Lord. |
